Are you struggling to find disk space for new software or a game? We have published many easy solutions to free your hard drive. Although the SSD drives of the new era operate at higher speeds, they offer much less than traditional SATA drives. A little space is all we need to store those memorable photos or important documents on our computer. In this article, we have completed five ways to help you recover space on your hard drive. We have covered ways to delete junk files, browser cache, uninstall unnecessary programs, delete duplicate files, etc. Let’s start immediately!

Use Disk Cleanup to delete temporary files.

Windows is a sophisticated operating system with lots of super useful utilities. Disk cleanup is one of those utilities that helps free hard disk space by deleting temporary files that are stored on your computer.

Instructions to delete temporary files by cleaning the disk

Step 1: Click Start.

Step 2: Type “Disk Cleanup” in the search box. Click on the first result.

Step 3: In cleaning the disk, select the drive. Example: C: driving. Click OK Press the Clean System Files button.

It takes a few minutes to clean all temporary files on the drive you have selected.

Uninstall software

Much of the disk space on many computers is occupied by programs and games. If there is any software or program on your computer that you no longer use, it is a good idea to uninstall them to free hard disk space.

Here are the instructions to uninstall or remove unwanted software and programs in Windows 10.

Step 1: click on the Start button. Click on Control Panel and then go to Uninstall a program.

Step 2: You will see a list of programs that are installed on your computer. Review them and select the ones you no longer need.

Step 3: After selecting the programs, click on the Uninstall button.

Tip: Click on the Size heading to sort the programs by file size to learn about the programs that take up the huge space on your computer’s hard drive.

Remove duplicate files

If you use advanced professional software such as Adobe Photoshop or any other video editing program, there is a possibility that your computer has accumulated many duplicate files over time. These duplicate files are not essential and take up too much hard disk space. Windows does not offer any utility to track these duplicate files and delete them at once. Fortunately, there are a couple of duplicate file search tools that can list all duplicate files on the Windows computer.

Delete the trash

Any file that we delete in Windows goes directly to the Recycle Bin. But it is not permanently deleted on your computer and still occupies hard disk space. You must empty the Recycle Bin from time to time to make sure the garbage is not consuming the space. Simply right click on the Recycle Bin and click on Empty Recycle Bin and it will remove all the trash. Note that you cannot recover files if they are permanently deleted from the Recycle Bin.

Use third-party programs to clean temporary files

The Windows operating system has an integrated temporary file cleaning program called Disk Cleanup. We have covered it in the second point of this article. However, it does not clean all temporary files, especially those of third-party software, such as browser cookies and cache. Cleaning the web browser cache and cookies rejuvenates the browser and improves speed. We need to use third-party programs to clean all temporary files.

CCleaner is one of the popular third-party software for the Windows operating system to clean all unnecessary things.

That is all you need to do to free up space on your hard drive. The small extra space is always useful, especially if you want to save something important.
