Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will not feature any type of drop-out system or loot box, according to developer Infinity Ward.
The game developer took Reddit overnight to discredit rumors and recent reports about Modern Warfare with loot boxes or suppy drops. Rumors arose after the well-known Call of Duty filter “TheGamingRevolution” claimed that Infinity Ward and Activision are implementing loot boxes for weapons and cosmetics
Amid the growing speculation within the Call of Duty community about the Modern Warfare monetization plan, one of the game’s leading developers has intervened to insist that Infinity Ward is not working on booties.
Joel Emslie, art director of the study at Infinity Ward, addressed the Modern Warfare subreddit to issue a statement under the title of “Current Events”, which is clearly designed to calm unbridled speculation. In the statement, Emslie said that Infinity Ward “is definitely NOT working on any type of drop-out system or loot box.” In addition, Emslie said that “functional things are unlocked through GAMEPLAY.”
Who wants more than 300 emotes in the supply falls, who wants more than 500 titles, who wants more than 200 aerosols in the supply falls,” the filter tweeted. “Weapons are also coming, forget about any cosmetic just malarkey.
According to Infinity Ward, this is not the case at all and all functional content will be unlocked when playing the game. More information on this matter will be announced later this week.
“There is still misinformed and incorrect information sent about Modern Warfare,” writes the developer on Reddit. “What I can say at the moment is that we are definitely NOT working on any kind of drop in supplies or loot box system. In addition, functional things are unlocked through GAMEPLAY. Stay tuned, we are planning to post information this week.
