What to look for when choosing a smartphone for gaming

Mobile gaming is increasingly becoming one of the most popular forms of gaming and it could eclipse console and PC gaming in terms of popularity and revenue in the next decade. There are laptops and desktop computers that are specifically designed to be optimized for gaming, but there are not yet any mobile devices which are specifically sold as gaming smartphones.

This discrepancy is partially because we all use our smartphones for just about everything and most people who use mobile games are aware that the gaming experience is not as immersive or intense as on PC or console systems. There are still several different specs to look for when choosing a smartphone for gaming, keep reading to learn more.

The rise of mobile gaming

Mobile gaming has become increasingly popular over the course of the last ten years and now it is a thriving, diverse market – not just a collection of games catering to children. There are also many different types of mobile gaming including classic games, role-playing games, and online casinos as well.

The online casino industry is one of the biggest sectors in the mobile gaming industry and online casinos are providing gamblers with casino offers to set themselves apart from the competition.

Internals and cooling

When you are looking for a gaming smartphone, one of the first things you should look for is the processor along with the other internals. For high-level gaming, your phone will need to be fast – so you will want to find a phone with a Snapdragon 700 series or an 800 series for optimal performance and compatibility.

If your phone is running games, it will get hot, so you need to look for cooling mechanisms to ensure continued performance. Advanced cooling mechanisms will set a phone apart from the competition.

Battery capacity and charging speed

Gaming will quickly kill a battery so you will want to look for a smartphone with a minimum 4,500mAh battery to ensure that you have a good battery life while gaming. Charging speed is also important but, ideally, you should prioritize battery capacity as it will be able to offer you gaming for long stretches of time.

Screen resolution

This may seem obvious, but it is also important for your phone to have great screen resolution. You should look for screens with 90Hz or 120Hz support. A high refresh rate is also important as the display will show more frames per second compared to the more traditional 60Hz screens.

One other aspect to look for is the high touch sampling rate on phone screens as the touch sampling rate will determine how fast the games will react to your touch on the display. This is obviously important for gaming, and you should look for phones with a minimum of 180Hz touch sampling screens when shopping around for a phone.
