Greninja in Pokémon Unite: skills, builds and tips
Pokémon Unite brought Nintendo’s little monsters to the world of MOBAs on Androidand iPhone ( iOS ) phones, in addition to the Nintendo Switch. Among the characters available in the game is Greninja, a high tricky Attacker with long-range attacks. Living up to the ninja-style, the Pokémon has stealth abilities focused on explosion damage. Still, the little monster is quite fragile and can be taken down quickly if the player isn’t careful.
Originally, Greninja was made available as a reward for beginning players. After this period, the only way to get the Pokémon is through the game store, leaving at 10,000 Aeos Coins or 575 Aeos Gems. You can also buy two skins for it: Hero Style and Fashionable Style. See in the following lines the guide with the abilities of the little monster, Held Items, Battle Items, and tips to play with Greninja in Pokémon Unite.
The ninja frog has damage and mobility capable of securing objectives quickly; learn more about Pokemon.
Basic Attack
If attacking from a distance, Greninja reduces the cooldown of Bubble, Water Shuriken, or Surf. If attacking at close range, deals more damage as enemy HP decreases. The third hit of the basic attack does extra damage, in addition to leaving. The opponent is slower for a while. If you’re attacking at close range, the third hit will only have the extra damage.
Torrent – Passive
Greninja gains attack speed and movement if it has half HP or less.
Bubble – Initial skill
The ability is used while the little monster is in Frogadier form. The Pokémon releases a spray of bubbles that deals damage and temporarily reduces the opponent’s movement speed. The skill’s cooldown time is nine seconds, and upon reaching level 7, Frogadier evolves into Greninja and can exchange Bubble for one of the following skills:
- Water Shuriken: Greninja throws a quick string of shurikens. They deal damage, temporarily reduce movement speed and restore your HP when hitting the enemy. When using the ability, Greninja also increases his movement speed. The cooldown is five seconds and, when upgraded at the end of the game (Water Shuriken+), the number of attacks is increased;
- Surf: Greninja surfs a wave that damages hit opponents and restores their HP. The skill’s cooldown time is nine seconds, but the cooldown will be reset if you eliminate an enemy. When the skill is improved at the end of the game (Surf+), the amount of HP restored is increased.
Substitute Doll – Initial Skill
Still, like Froakie, the Pokémoncreates a substitute puppet when it moves forward. It can be pretty helpful in an escape, for example, taking attacks from enemies. The skill’s cooldown is eight seconds, and when it reaches level 5, Froakie evolves into Frogadier. He can then exchange the Substitute for one of the following skills:
- Double Team: Dash in a designated direction and create copies that can attack enemies and wild Pokémon. The cooldown is nine seconds, but when the skill is upgraded at the end of the game (Double Team+), this period gets shorter;
- Smokescreen: Creates a smokescreen that can be used to escape danger. Then the Pokémon enters temporary stealth mode and gains extra movement speed. The next basic attack also becomes enhanced. Cooldown is 13 seconds, and once the skill is improved (Smokescreen +), stealth mode attack is increased.
Waterbust Shuriken – Unite Move
Greninja throws a giant water shuriken into an area to deal damage and slow down opponents hit, exploding immediately and dealing extra damage. When the Unite Move animation ends, Greninja can jump in a designated direction and run away or continue attacking.
Best Held Items
Held Items are fundamental pieces in the game. They grant your little monster extra attributes throughout the game, such as movement speed or increased damage over some time. You can only equip three of these artifacts at once. To get them, complete some challenges proposed by the game or access the store. See below examples of builds for Greninja:
Build 1: glass cannon (a lot of damage, low durability)
- Muscle Band: when the basic attack hits, damage increases by 1% of the target’s remaining HP;
- Buddy Barrier: When the Pokémon Uses its Unite Move, it creates a shield for itself and the closest ally, equivalent to 20% of its HP;
- Scope Lens: Increases the critical damage of the basic attack. The greater Greninja’s attack, the greater the attack dealt.

Greninja Po Best Battle Items
Battle items work like other MOBA spells – heal, hunt, flash, etc. Battle items are obtained by leveling up the account, and each Pokémon can only equip one of these. Below, see the most suitable for Greninja:
- Eject Button: teleports a short distance;
- Potion: restores part of lost HP;
- Fluffy Tail: Temporarily paralyzes wild Pokémon and increases damage dealt with them;
- X Attack: increases attack and special attack temporarily.
Tips for playing Greninja Pokémon
- Use Double Team to reach targets and objectives faster, or even deceive the opponent and escape from confusion;
- It is not difficult to dodge the Water Shuriken. Therefore, use the ability only if you are sure it will hit;
- Focus on the farm. While it doesn’t evolve into Greninja, the Pokémon is not yet at its full potential;
- Don’t play alone. Greninja is mobile but easy to take down. Always try to be with one or more teammates;
- Like a good ninja, the bush is your best friend to help with stealth (whether fleeing an attack or setting up an ambush);
- Although it is an Attacker, Greninja has its most extraordinary efficiency playing in the center area;
- Use Unite Move smartly, as it may not be so easy to hit (even more so during a frantic team fight). And, even during the skill, Greninja is still vulnerable to attacks.
