The Future of New World: What’s Next for the MMO?
Amazon’s latest release of the MMORPG New World has been making the rounds and offers a whole new dimension just like the name suggests. Players have long anticipated this release which takes you through the Island of Aeternum as you encounter dangerous enemies and battle them using magical properties found along the way. With so few MMOs releasing recently, apart from Lost Ark, New World still looks to be one of the best multiplayer games around.
In 2016, Amazon announced the production of New World and two other multiplayer games. After a while, Amazon gaming developers suspended the development of Breakaway Multiplayer and focused on developing New World without any noise or news on the release. Finally, in 2020, Amazon announced the game’s release. New World was released on August 28, 2021, and has since received positive reviews for its offerings. It is gradually becoming one of the most popular multiplayer games on PCs. New World also lacks the subscription fee that other MMO games possess which means players can play the game anytime they want without interference.Â
Which makes you wonder, what’s next?
The Future of New World
Since the successful launch of New World on PCs, players are left wondering what other juicy plans Amazon has in store for us. Here are some new changes we will see in New World.
Consoles or Mobile Devices?
While fans of New World have remained optimistic about its availability on consoles, the gaming developers have shown no signs of producing a version for Consoles or mobile devices. It is obvious that New World was specifically designed for PCs. However, players have requested a console version as a plan for the nearest future.
Despite the clamor for a release on consoles, the PCs version still needs a lot of work and development before we see an update on consoles.
New World recently made an adjustment on the bugs and features to allow smooth running on most PCs with decent specifications. So how soon are we going to see New World on consoles? Not so soon.
Roadmaps
Due to the lack of subscription fee on, New World you get an endless cycle of playing Player versus Player battles to the max level. However, this mode does not come with a content roadmap. A roadmap is of course an essential feature every live game must have. So far, it looks like the developers of New World are interested in adding this to future developments. We have seen roadmaps and other necessary features on other MMOs so there is a possibility that Amazon works on an improvement and makes a few enhanced and extra features. It remains to be seen whether these features would be paid or free should we witness an improvement.
More Weapons
One of the features that make New World such an exciting game is the variety of fascinating weapons you get. Each weapon you select offers different powers and advantages depending on the role you choose to play. As you improve your weapon mastery, you get access to other special moves associated with your weapon. You may need to acquire some New World gold to access these unique abilities. Some of these weapons include:
- Great Axe
- One-Handed Sword and Shield
- Musket
- Spear
- Bows
- War Hammer
- Hatchet
- Fire Staff
- Rapier
- Life Staff
On the 2nd of October, New World replied to a fan’s tweet but stated they had focused on the bugs and glitches in the game and sought to add to the weapons collection.
“For the month of October we’re focused on issues, bugs, exploits, and quality of life for our players. As we look forward, we will definitely be adding new weapons, features, and content,” they replied.
With the promise of additional weapons and features, players are definitely in for a treat as this would add more quality to live games. The improvement and fixes of bugs are evident in the gameplay as you barely get any lag or stuttering effect in the gameplay. New World also added a cosmetic store update as a Halloween special with new skins and designs for outfits and weapons.
So far, there seem to be concrete plans to introduce new weapons into the game such as daggers and the great sword (with an added stance switching feature). And with players demanding the pairing of one-handed weapons like a rapier with a shield, New World may consider that aspect in their new plans. We might see new weapons that work with the shield introduced to the game.
PvP and PvE Modes
The thrilling Player versus Player combat on the New World is one of the modes that sets this game aside from a host of other MMORPGs. The game offers two PvP Modes: Outpost Rush and War with each mode having different layouts and ideas to play the game.
It gets more exciting as some interesting changes are coming up in New World. We are going to see some map expansions which will offer a level increase and added expeditions.
The game also seeks to add Mutators to increase the difficulty and provide a different feel every time you play the PVE. The central idea is to make the enemies harder to face by empowering them with stronger buffs. However, you will get better New World items as rewards should you defeat them. This will give you a very good reason to play expeditions as many times as possible.
Also, there are signs that we will find Mutators in Outpost Rush which will be interesting to see. Perhaps, we might see a different spin and pattern in this game mode. You will get added items you can purchase using new world gold as well. Adding Mutators to the PVE and PVP Modes will surely pose a way to earn more rewards after a tough challenge.
Let’s not forget New World isn’t a paid multiplayer game so it leaves us wondering whether any advancement would have any paid feature that may require you to buy new world gold like in WoW and OSRS classics.Â
For a while now players have been looking forward to the possible new developments New World plan to offer. For a game as brilliant as the New World, fans are wondering what plans hold and hoping for an advancement that makes the game even more enjoyable. Fans definitely need a glimpse of future ideas as this would ensure its longevity in the gaming world.
